# Add a server icon to your Minecraft server

> How to give your server an icon in the multiplayer list: pick a generated design or upload your own PNG from the panel, or drop a 64 by 64 server-icon.png in the server folder.

The icon next to your server in the multiplayer list comes from a file called `server-icon.png` in the server folder. Minecraft only accepts one shape of it: **64 by 64 pixels, PNG**. Any other size is ignored without an error, which is why a hand-placed icon "does not show".

## From the panel

Click the server's icon, on the server card or at the top of the server's page, and the **Server icon** dialog opens.

- **Pick a generated design.** The panel draws a set of pixel-art icons for the server; choose one and save.
- **Upload your own.** Any PNG works: it is resized to 64 by 64 for you and written to the server folder as `server-icon.png`.

Either way the new icon shows in players' lists after the next restart, and the panel uses it for the server too.

## By hand

1. Make the image exactly 64 by 64 pixels and save it as PNG. Transparency is fine.
2. In **Files**, upload it to the server folder as `server-icon.png`, replacing the one that is there.
3. Restart the server.

Nothing in `server.properties` controls the icon; it is the file alone.

## It still shows the old one

- The client caches icons. Press refresh in the multiplayer list, or remove and re-add the server.
- The server has not restarted since the change.
- A hand-placed file is not 64 by 64. Open it and check; a 512 by 512 export is the usual mistake. The panel's upload never has this problem.
- The server is asleep: a hibernating server shows the sleeping icon the panel sets, and yours returns when it wakes.
