# Make your server public: icon, list message, join page, community website

> Everything that makes a server look real to someone who has not joined yet, in the order it matters.

Four things cover what a stranger sees before they join, and they take about ten minutes.

## 1. A server icon

On the server page, **Set a server icon**: pick one of the pixel-art designs (**Icon design**, **Use selected design**) or **Upload icon** with a 64 by 64 PNG. Restart once and the icon shows in every player's multiplayer list.

## 2. A list message

**Settings**, **Server**, **Server list message**: two lines with colour codes. The [MOTD generator](/tools/motd-generator/) previews it. See [Server list message](/docs/server-list-message/).

## 3. A join page

Every server has a public page with the address, whether it is online and a wake button for a sleeping server. **Settings**, **Share** shows the link, a copyable line for game chat and a Discord embed. It is the link to put in a Discord announcement.

## 4. A community website

**More for this server**, **Community website**: a full site at join.fadehost.net/your-name with the live world map, a playtime leaderboard, join info and stream embeds, on your own domain if you like. Free to build and preview, a small monthly fee to publish.

## Then

- Open it up: online mode on, no whitelist, a moderation plugin and a couple of trusted operators. See [Online mode, whitelist or login protection](/docs/online-mode-whitelist-or-login-protection/).
- List it: the server list sites take the address and a description; the join page link works as the website field.
- Keep it up: turn **Sleep when empty** off for a public server so the first visitor of the day does not wait for a boot.
