RLCraft Server Hosting
Shivaxi's hardcore survival pack on Minecraft 1.12.2: dragons, thirst, skills and one-shot deaths.
Every mod pre-installed. Online in minutes.
Free 7-day trial with 8 GB RAM, no card. Enough to actually run RLCraft. After the trial: $7.50/mo for 6 GB.
How much RAM does a RLCraft server need?
4 GB for a friend group, 6 GB for 5 to 10 players. More than that tends to make 1.12.2 stutter, because old Forge handles large heaps badly.
Different player count or extra mods in mind? The RAM calculator works it out from the same measurements.
| Players | RAM | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| Just you | 4 GB | $5.50 |
| 2 to 4 friends | 6 GBrecommended | $7.50 |
| 5 to 10 players | 8 GB | $9.50 |
| Public server | 10 GB | $11.50 |
If you are not sure, start the trial: the panel's memory chart shows what the pack really uses with your group on, and RAM changes by the gigabyte at any time.
RLCraft server files
Every release of RLCraft on CurseForge has a separate server pack with the mod jars, configs and a start script. Newest release: RLCraft 1.12.2 - Release v2.9.2d.zip (319 MB).
- Loader
- Forge 1.12.2
- Java
- Java 8 (Java 11 works too)
- Minecraft
- 1.12.2, 1.11.2
- Recommended RAM
- 6 GB
- Port
- 25565 TCP (yours is assigned automatically on FadeHost)
Or skip the files: pick RLCraft at signup and the server pack installs itself.
How to make a RLCraft server
Yourself, on your own machine
- 1Download the server pack, not the client zip
The file called "server pack" on the pack's CurseForge page (RLCraft 1.12.2 - Release v2.9.2d.zip, 319 MB) contains the mod jars, configs and a start script. The client zip your launcher downloads is only a manifest and does not run as a server.
- 2Install Java 8
Minecraft 1.12.2 runs on Java 8 (Java 11 works too). Install it and check with "java -version" before anything else; the wrong Java is the most common reason a Forge server refuses to start.
- 3Run the Forge installer and accept the EULA
If the pack does not ship an installed loader, run "java -jar forge-installer.jar --installServer" in the server folder. Start it once, open eula.txt, set eula=true, start again.
- 4Set the memory to 6 GB
Give it memory: -Xmx6G in user_jvm_args.txt (Forge for Minecraft 1.17 and newer) or in the start script's java line on older versions. The first boot registers every mod and can take several minutes; wait for the Done line before judging it.
- 5Open the port and invite people
Forward TCP 25565 on your router and allow it in the firewall, then share your public address. Everyone installs the same pack version in their launcher; a newer client is refused or misses content.
On FadeHost
- 1Start the free trial
No card. The signup remembers RLCraft; your account and server are created together.
- 2We install RLCraft
The whole server pack, Forge loader and the right Java, with the client-only mods that crash dedicated servers already removed. Pack updates are one click.
- 3Share the address and play
Your address works the moment the world finishes generating. The trial's 8 GB is enough to run the pack properly.
Hosting notes for RLCraft
- The limit is single-core CPU speed, not memory: Recurrent Complex structures and Lycanites mob AI run on one thread.
- Do not trim mods to speed it up. RLCraft's balance is a web of configs, and removing one mod cascades into errors.
- Ticking-entity crashes are almost always a Lycanites mob in a broken state. The crash report names the entity and its coordinates.
- The vanilla watchdog kills 1.12.2 servers during heavy worldgen. Raise max-tick-time (or set it to -1 while pregenerating).
- Pregenerate the world with Chunky before people play. Fresh chunk generation is the single biggest lag source in RLCraft.
Why host RLCraft on FadeHost
Mods, configs and datapacks from the official Forge pack, set up on first boot with the client-only mods removed. Pack updates are one click, never an FTP session.
The server sleeps when nobody is on and wakes the moment a player joins, so a friend group pays for a server that is actually up when it matters.
When a mod breaks the boot, the diagnosis names it and the fix is one click. Ask the Copilot why the server lags and it answers from the real console and stats.
NVMe-backed nodes, full console and file access, scheduled backups to offsite storage, and every extra gigabyte of RAM is a dollar a month.
Frequently asked
How do I make a RLCraft server?
The short way: start a FadeHost trial and pick RLCraft; the server pack, the Forge loader and the right Java install themselves and the server is online in a few minutes. The manual way: download the official server files, install Java 8, run the Forge installer, accept the EULA, set the memory and open port 25565. Both are described on this page.
How do I play RLCraft with friends?
Host a server for it: everyone installs RLCraft in their launcher and joins one address, and the world keeps running while any of you is on. On FadeHost the pack installs itself when you create the server, the 7-day trial gives 8 GB with no card, and a sleeping server wakes when a friend joins. The manual way is the server files below on a machine that stays on with port 25565 open; LAN and direct connect only work while the host's PC is on and everyone is on the same network.
How much RAM does a RLCraft server need?
6 GB for a group of 2 to 4 friends and 8 GB for 5 to 10 players, estimated from the size of the official server pack (319 MB).
Where do I download the RLCraft server files?
From the pack's CurseForge page: every release has a separate "server pack" file with the mod jars and configs (newest: RLCraft 1.12.2 - Release v2.9.2d.zip). The client zip is only a manifest. On FadeHost the server pack is fetched and installed for you.
Can I host a RLCraft server for free?
Not on the free tier: it gives 2 GB and RLCraft needs 6 GB ($7.50 a month here). The 7-day trial gives 8 GB with no card, enough to run the pack properly.
Which Java version does RLCraft need?
Minecraft 1.12.2 runs on Java 8 (Java 11 works too). On FadeHost the right Java is picked automatically; on your own machine install it before running the Forge installer.
Do my friends need to install RLCraft too?
Yes. Everyone joining needs the same RLCraft version in their launcher (CurseForge, Modrinth or Prism). The server side is handled by the host; a client on a newer pack version than the server is refused or misses content.
Can I bring my existing RLCraft world?
Yes. Upload the world folder through the file manager or SFTP, or use the importer to pull the whole server from another host. Keep the pack version the world was played on until it is safely backed up.
Does RLCraft work on Bedrock (phones and consoles)?
No. RLCraft is a Java Edition modpack and Bedrock clients cannot load mods. Geyser lets Bedrock players join vanilla-compatible Java servers, not modded ones.
The RLCraft server crashes on start. What now?
The usual causes are a client-only mod in the mods folder (shaders, HUD or texture mods), a loader build that does not match the pack version, the wrong Java, or too little memory. On FadeHost the installer removes the known client-only mods, the loader and Java are matched to the pack, and the crash doctor reads the log and names the mod when something else breaks.
