Alerts and activity for a bot or app
A bot or app can tell you when something happens to it, and it keeps a history of everything that already has. The alerts are set up on the Settings tab, and the history is on the Overview tab.
Turning alerts on
Open the app, then Settings, and find Notifications. You can be alerted on a Discord channel webhook, by email, or both.
- Tick the events you want to hear about.
- For Discord, paste a Discord webhook URL. Make one in Discord under Edit Channel, Integrations, Webhooks.
- For email, tick Email me these alerts. Also email everyone on my team sends them to the rest of your team as well.
- Press Save notifications.
The events
| Event | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Crashed | The app exited on its own and we could not keep it up. |
| Back online | The app is running again after a crash. |
| Deployed | A new version went live, usually from a push to your branch. |
| Started | The app was started. |
| Stopped | The app was stopped. |
| Restarted | The app was restarted. |
| Health check | The health check on the app’s web address failed enough times to restart the app. |
| Disk almost full | The app is close to the disk its plan allows. |
Crashed, Back online, Deployed, Health check and Disk almost full are on until you change them. Started, stopped and restarted are off to begin with, because those are usually you pressing the button.
Health check alerts only apply to an app with a web address and a health check path set. See Health checks.
Crash emails
The first time an app starts crashing, you get one email. If it is still crashing a day later you get one more, with the number of crashes since the first. You are not emailed again for every restart in between.
Discord alerts and the app’s own history are not held back that way, so a webhook gets every crash as it happens.
Activity
Activity sits at the bottom of the Overview tab, newest first. It lists what happened to the app: deploys and which commit went live, starts and stops, crashes, alerts that were sent, plan and region changes.
It shows the most recent entries and loads more when you ask for it. Use it to answer “when did this break”, then open the live console to see what the app actually printed at the time.
Alerts for a game server
This page is about hosted bots and apps. A Minecraft server has its own set of alerts, which are different: see Server Alerts.
